Learning Disability Week - 19 – 25 June 2023 - WE NEED YOU - Dorset Care Association

14th June 2023

In your role, do you help people with a learning disability to have a better quality of life? If so, NHS England would love to hear from you ahead of Learning Disability Week.

From Monday 19th – Sunday 25th June 2023 is Learning Disability Week, and this year’s Mencap theme is ‘busting myths about living life with a learning disability’. To show support for the week across our region, a schedule of activity is planned to raise awareness around the lives of people with a learning disability so that we can help change any preconceived ideas and misconceptions.

This is where you come in! - NHS England would love to hear examples from any learning disability professionals in the South West about how your work contributes to improving the lives of people with a learning disability. The more specific your answers/stories, the better! E.g. a GP leading on health equalities championing Annual Health Checks, which is driving up uptake in your practice, resulting in early diagnosis and treatment of otherwise life altering illnesses.

To capture your responses, please write on the poster here, and hold it up for a photo, (in the style of the example image), returning photos to [email protected] by midday Thursday 15 June, along with your name, job title, and where in the South West you work.

Anyone who works across the learning disability and autism space is welcome to get involved and do feel free to add as little or as much as you like to your answer. Let’s celebrate what you/your colleagues do for people with a learning disability.

Spread the word. Highlight yourself and colleagues as Learning Disability Week Champions!

Best wishes,
Anna Knight
Development Lead
