National Numeracy Champions Scheme

1st August 2024

Skills & Learning have just announce that they have joined the National Numeracy programme which provides funding* for National Numeracy to train and support 25 Numeracy Champions across Dorset.

National Numeracy is hosting an information event for stakeholders on Tuesday, 20th August, 10am to 11am for any organisations interested in finding out more about the scheme and expressing interest in taking part. See the flier attached to register. If you are interested in finding out more but not able to make the date, please let us know.

This CPD accredited programme is not about teaching maths but focuses on helping adults who may feel anxious with numbers. You don’t have to be a maths specialist or even like maths – just a supportive person to help others get started in improving their confidence and skills. There is plenty more information about the scheme by clicking here.

The programme is suitable for those supporting adults in council services, their communities, their workplaces or other organisations. It is a voluntary role and the individual benefits are:

  • Professional Development: CPD-accredited training programme, enhancing your own professional development. Become part of a growing network of Numeracy Champions across the UK.
  • Satisfaction: National Numeracy's trained Champions find it hugely satisfying to support adults and help them get started on improving their confidence and skills.
  • Increased confidence: Many Numeracy Champions appreciate the opportunity to improve their own skills and confidence with numbers and supporting others.

Of course the organisation and community benefits go way beyond this by improving numeracy confidence and skills across communities, workplaces and the population as a whole.

* The National Numeracy Champions scheme in Dorset is fully funded by the Government's Multiply programme grant.
